Troubleshooting The Other Half issues

The Other Half (TOH) -covers are smart back covers designed to change the look and sound of your Jolla device. This article's purpose is to help you troubleshoot a The Other Half that doesn't seem to be functioning.

Taking Other Half into use

Pre-requisites for using a TOH:

1. A Jolla account on your phone
To be able to enable your TOH content on your device, you need to have a Jolla Account configured on your device. When in doubt, please check in "Settings > Accounts" that you have a Jolla Account in use on your phone. For more information on configuring the Jolla Account, please see here:

2. A working internet connection
Before attaching The Other Half, make sure your Jolla has a working internet connection.

Enabling The Other Half content

1. Attach your TOH (The Other Half) back cover to your device.
2. Wait a while. Your device should vibrate, make a sound and a dialogue should pop-up, asking if you want to install the content.



The download dialogue has a (+) –icon. Press it to download and enable your Ambience.

To view your installed Ambiences

Visit menu "Gallery > Ambiences"

I get an error message!

Read the error message carefully. The error message contains two lines, the top one probably reads “Problem with store”, but the second line is reserved for a description of what causes the problem.

A common descriptions of the problem is:

"This Other Half is not working":
In some cases The Other Half isn't recognized by the Jolla Store, and Jolla must configure it to get it working. Please submit a ticket to Jolla Service and Support.
Include the 14-digit ID of the Other Half (also known as NFC tag) in the message. You can find it in "Settings > System > About Product" at "The Other Half".

In both cases you can also try the following:

1. Power your device off and wait a moment.
2. Start your phone up again and just wait in the Home screen for a moment.
3. If nothing happens, open up Gallery and open the folder Ambiences. If you see your Ambience there, select it, and be sure to set the little star as white.
4. Then, from the pull-down menu, select “Set ambience”

If you still can’t see your Ambience there, power the device off, remove the back cover, wait a while and then power-on without the back cover. Only attach it when your phone has started up.

If the problem persists, please submit a ticket to Jolla Service and Support.

I get no error message, it just doesn't work!

1. Restart your phone and wait for a moment.
2. If nothing happens, open up Gallery and open the folder Ambiences. If you see your Ambience there, select it, and be sure to set the little star as white.
3. Then, from the pull-down menu, select “Set ambience”.

If you still can’t see your Ambience there, power the device off, remove the back cover, wait a while and then power-on without the back cover. Only attach it when your phone has started up.

Please note: the white “Snow White” TOH has a background image associated to it, but no new system sounds.
