How do I move contacts from Nokia E90 to Jolla?

Jolla Care -

General

Jolla supports several ways of transferring contacts locally. In addition, it is possible to donload the contacts from a cloud service after synchronizing them first to the cloud from E90. Depending on the number of contacts, some of these ways are handier than others. In general, the transfer is easier if the contacts have been wrapped up to one vCard (.vcf) file.

We assume that you have the latest SailfishOS version in your phone.

1) Fetching contacts from SIM card, saved by E90

In Jolla, visit menu Settings > Apps > People. Touch item "From SIM card" in area "Import contacts".

Limitation: SIM cards do not support all fields of contact information. They can keep the name and number but may not save street and email addresses, etc.

SIM-cards usually have room for about 250 names.

2) Transferring contacts with PC and Nokia PC Suite

If you have Nokia PC Suite program in your Windows PC then you can transfer your contacts to the memory of the PC. All details are preserved. On PC, it is best to save the contacts as vCard (.vcf) files to folder C:\MyContacts. After this, launch the Windows terminal application (type cmd in the search field of Start menu - a black terminal window will appear). Type the following commands in the terminal:

cd C:\MyContacts

copy *.vcf ALL.vcf

Connect your Jolla phone to the PC using a USB cable - take "PC connection" mode. The phone appears as Sailfish device to the PC. Sailfish device contains the main folders Phone Memory and SD Card (if installed). Copy file ALL.vcf to Phone Memory.

Detach Jolla from PC. Visit Jolla menu Settings > Apps > People and touch item "From contact file". Now touch item "ALL.vcf". Jolla will move the contacts to People application now.

3) Fetching contacts from SD card, saved by E90

If your E90 has a micro SD card then you save the contacts to the card (formatted to FAT32). All details are preserved.

We will follow an instruction from web page http://www.justin.my/2011/04/how-to-transfer-contact-from-nokia-to-android/

-- Press ‘Contact’, Options -> Mark/Unmark -> Mark All
-- Options -> Copy -> To Memory Card
-- It may display ‘Remove existing contacts from memory card?’, press ‘Yes’
-- All your contacts will save in your SD card, by (contact-name.vcf) files.

Move the SD card from E90 to Jolla now. Because we want to wrap up the contacts first we move them first to PC. Create folder C:\MyContacts to the PC first.

Connect your Jolla phone to the PC using a USB cable - take "PC connection" mode. The phone appears as Sailfish device to the PC. Sailfish device contains the main folders Phone Memory and SD Card. Click on SD Card and find your E90 contacts there. Copy them to C:\MyContacts

Launch the Windows terminal application (type cmd in the search field of Start menu - a black terminal window will appear). Type the following commands in the terminal:

cd C:\MyContacts

copy *.vcf ALL.vcf

Copy file ALL.vcf to Phone Memory of the Sailfish device. Detach Jolla from PC. Visit Jolla menu Settings > Apps > People and touch item "From contact file". Now touch item "ALL.vcf". Jolla will move the contacts to People application now.

4) Sending contacts from E90 to Jolla via Bluetooth

Sending contacts over Blueooth link one-by-one may be possible if there are not very many of them. The contacts will appear as individual vCard files (unless E90 has wrapped them up) in Jolla menu Settings > Apps > People. The items are named "From file: FirstnameLastname.vcf". They can be moved to People app by touching them one-by-one.

5) Receiving contacts from E90 to Jolla via Bluetooth

SailfishOS update 1.0.4.20 brought a Jolla application which can import contacts from other phones over a Bluetooth link. This does not work with all phones. Should it work with E90, then this would be an easy way to transfer the contacts to Jolla. This application is in Settings > System > Bluetooth sync. Follow the on-screen instructions.
