Sailfish X: Using WLAN hotspot

Jolla Care -

Sailfish X version 2.1.3.5 (and any earlier, probably some of the later, too) has the issue that although WLAN hotspot (a.k.a. internet sharing) can be enabled in the UI (Settings > Internet sharing), Xperia X device does not provide any WLAN network for other devices to join.

For now, the issue can be circumvented with the following commands. This requires that the device has the Developer mode enabled and the SSH password set.

Enable hotspot

devel-su
echo 2 > /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameters/op_mode

Restart WLAN from UI ("Settings > WLAN") and enable hotspot ("Settings > Internet sharing")

ip link set dev wlan0 master tether

The WLAN network configured in "Settings > Internet sharing" should be available now.

Disable hotspot

devel-su
echo 1 > /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameters/op_mode

Disable hotspot and restart WLAN from UI.

Sailfish X - USB Tethering can be easily enabled and works without cmd line once installed:

Use developer mode and use this command line to install it:
    pkcon install usb-moded-connection-sharing-android-config

Did not work for me on 2.1.3.7. The USB tethering one.

Unfortunately we have not completed implementing USB tethering. The UI part is very minimal (there is a dialog add-on when connecting the cable, and there is a brief banner on successful connection) - one can only check if it works by making an internet connection from a PC. But it worked on my Win10 today - it might need some tuning up on Win 7 (RNDIS drivers...). I do not know how it would behave on Ubuntu.

Works fine on 2.1.3.5 then 2.1.3.7 after the upgrade with Win7 SP1 with no addition setup required on Windows.

Just plug the phone in, make sure the USB settings are set to "always asl" or Internet Sharing and it works fine on my xperia X

You can turn on developer mode to change the USB IP address too.
